PRIME Lab
We design hardware for post-quantum cryptography and computation on encrypted data. We also study how to protect this hardware from information leaks. PRIME Lab is part of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH).
What PRIME stands for
PRIME stands for Privacy, Resilience, Integrity, Microelectronics, and Encryption. Our research aims to make cryptographic hardware fast, efficient, and secure.
- P Privacy Computing with encrypted data. How can a server or wearable device process health data without decrypting it? Active
- R In development Resilience Protecting hardware against information leakage. Can an accelerator reveal secret keys through its power use or electromagnetic (EM) emissions? In development
- I Integrity Hardware for digital signatures. How can hardware make post-quantum signatures fast and practical? Active
- M Microelectronics Arithmetic and circuit design for cryptography. How small, fast, and energy-efficient can a polynomial multiplier be? Active
- E Encryption Hardware for post-quantum key exchange. How can we make post-quantum key exchange fast and efficient? Active

We have one fully funded PhD position for Fall 2027. A Spring 2027 start may also be possible. We welcome strong skills in either software or hardware. Publications are helpful but are not required.
